4to (about 270x210 mm.). 31 double-page engraved maps, plans, and plates, one folding, 11 hand-coloured in outline (all, plate III close cut in outer margins with minor loss of text, minor spotting).
Later (19th century) marbled boards, somewhat worn, new inner doublures and endpapers, blank spines, red shaved upper edges, otherwise uncut. First edition. 5 volumes.

This book, begun in 1756, not finished until 1788, is a description of ancient Greece, Hellenic civilization, institutions, arts, history, philosophy, and literature during classical times.
