Contemporary dark green morocco, somewhat worn, gilt borders, gilt inner borders, gilt edges of covers, richly gilt spine in six compartments, all edges gilt, front edge with fore-edge painting. Hand-painted bookplate of W:m Douglas French.

The fore-edge painting depicts idyllic scene with people by a river with boats.
First published in 1838 in an expensive, richly illustrated, edition. The novel is set in Granada, Spain at the end of the Middle Ages - beginning in the summer of 1491.
