Contemporary brown mottled calf, worn, gilt borders, on covers the gilt armour of Louis XV of France, gilt inner borders, gilt edges of covers, gilt spine in six compartments with the gilt monogram of the king, some damages at head and foot, split upper joints, partly warped covers and rubbed corners, redspeckled edges. At foot of spine pasted oval label with text "M 77 1754". Minor foxing. Bookplate of Eivind Hassler.

Second revised and enlarged edition of the classic work on the athmoshperical phenomena Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights, the first comprehensive treatise devoted entirely to the subject.
