GROEN, JAN VAN DER (c.1635-1672) - NYLANDT, PIETER (17th century). Le Jardinier Hollandois, où sont décrites toutes sortes de belles Maisons de plaisance & de campagne; & comment on les peut planter, semer, & embellir  de  plusieurs herbes, fleurs, & arbres rares - Der Niederländische Gärtner, das ist, eine Beschreibung allerhand Fürstlicher, Herren Höfen, und Lust-gärten, und wie man dieselben mit vielen trefflichen Bäumen, Blumen und Kreutern kan bepflanzen, besäen, undzierlich anrichten... Nebest einem Anhange von 200 Modellen der Blumenfelder, Irrgängen, Läuben und Sonnenweisern... Amsterdam (Marcus Doornick) 1669-70.

4to (198x155 mm.). 5 parts in 1 volume. Head-title with engraved vignette, engraved extra title (with the original Dutch title), 5 sectional title pages of which one almost fully engraved and two with engraved vignettes, 15 full-page engravings, 55 fullpage woodcuts, some woodcut illustrations in text. Sectional titles I and V dated 1669, the rest 1670. Text in French and German throughout.
Contemporary vellum, very worn and heavily stained, split joints, small hole in the parchment. Partly loose in binding. Engravings with a few spots, tears to margins, a few engravings with some soiling and spotting to margins, one with tear to inner margin, woodcuts partly spotted, 2 defect with loss of image and text, dampstains to the end.
Head-title soiled and spotted, tear to margin, outer margin folded, engraved extra title with tear affecting plate, 1 sectional title with tears also affecting woodcut on verso, small hole in the first 8 pages (some loss of letters), some text pages with a few tears, some spotting, partly with dampstaining and soiling to margins, some minor worming. A few marginal notes in red ink.

Rare French-German edition of Nederlandtsen Hovenier published the same year as the first edition. The engravings and woodcuts show plans of garden designs, sundials, lattice work etc.
