8:o. (5, including engraved extra title), vi-xiv, (2, Directions to the binder and Errata), (1)-609 pp. Engraved frontispiece and extra title with engraved vignette by Phiz (H. K. Browne, small tear to front), 2 engraved plates by Buss , 6 by Seymour, 4 unsigned and the rest by Phiz (H. K. Browne). 1 upper original wrapper No XIV, dated 1836, preserved at the beginning.
19th century light brown polished calf, somewhat worn, lower corner sligthly damaged, some restorations to hinges, inner upper hinge partly split, inner gilt dentelles, richly gilt spine in six compartments, labels in red and green, marbled endpapers, gilt edges (bound by Wallis). Modern leather edged slipcase. Internally very clean, only minor foxing, a few leaves at the beginning with minor tears.

First issue, first printing of the book edition. Plates in a mixed state.
Frontispiece in the first state, "Veller" instead of "Weller" on the title page, title dated 1837. Page 25 with signature "E", the "F" in "OF"imperfect in the headline on p. 432.
