The engravings were executed by Cornelius Martinus Vermeulen, many after drawings by Pierre Paul Sevin.
Tachard`s famous voyages to Thailand with notes on South Africa Cape Province, depicting exotic animals (zebras, rhinoceros, chameleonts and several elephants) and plants.
Six jesuit scientists destined for China were sent along with Louis XIV's embassy to Siam in 1685. In 1687, Tachard returned to Siam.
