PHOTOGRAPHS OF JAPAN. 52 hand-coloured photographs (albumen prints) of Japan, size about 210x275 mms. About 1860-80ies. All photographs with printed text and mounted on stiff boards in an album. Most photographs with inventory number and typed caption label in English. Partly faded and with some minor spotting and wearing. 1 board damaged to margin.
Album in oblong folio (about 280x360 mms). Contemporary japanese lacquer relief decorated binding with leather spine, partly worn and with damages on upper cover and spine, loose to lower inner joint, all edges gilt.

Interesting and fine photographs of landscapes, street and city scenes, temples, a.o. Nagasaki, Mount Fuji, Yokohama, Kyoto, Kobe, Tokyo, Asakura, Nikko, Mogi, geishas, Fencing men, Chinese music, basket merchant, Japanese sumo wrestlers, Aino and Menoko, Crucifixion and Gokumon (last one by F. Beato). Photographer Felice Beato (c. 1833-1909), lived in Yokohama for more than 20 years.
